Más de 16 mil personas son evacuadas tras la erupción del volcán La Soufriere en la Isla San Vicente, en el Caribe, con columnas de humo y cenizas superiores a 15 metros. Países como Guayana y Antigua abren sus fronteras para recibir a los evacuados, mientras los expertos advierten que las erupciones continuarán los próximos días o incluso semanas.
La últimas vez que hizo erupción el volcán La Soufriere fue en 1979, y el evento más fuerte fue en 1902 cuando murieron mil 600 personas. San Vicente es una isla habitada por poco más de 100 mil personas y forma parte de la cadena de islas de Granadinas.
